Abuakwa North By-Election: Candidate Buys Votes with GHȼ1?

The parliamentary candidate of the United Front Party (UFP) in the Abuakwa North Constituency bye-election, Isaac Kwarteng, has been accused of vote buying in the ongoing election.

According to reports, the candidate was seen sharing GHȼ1 to voters in his bid to win the seat.

Adom News’ Eastern Region correspondent, Maxwell Kudekor, confirmed the illegal action on Asempa FM’.

The election has become necessary following the murder of the incumbent NPP Member of Parliament for the area Joseph Boakye Danquah Adu.

The governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) pulled out of the poll with the claim of not wanting to benefit from the late law maker’s death.

But candidates contesting the elections including New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate Gifty Twum-Ampofo and Samuel Frimpong of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) are leaving no stone unturned to ensure a landslide victory.

Not to be outdone, UFP candidate Isaac Kwarteng, was caught on still pictures and video trying to buy a woman voter's vote with Ghs1.

His plan, Maxwell Kudekor said, was thwarted by the security man on duty who prevented him from doling out the monies to the voters.

Isaac Kwateng in defence also accused the other candidates of devising strategies to "rig" the by-elections, which is taking place in the NPP stronghold.

His plea, Maxwell said did not go down well with the policeman and drove him [Kwateng] out of the polling station.

Isaac Kwateng has therefore vowed not to accept the election results if it does not go in his favour.

Abuakwa North has a voters' roll of over 40,000.
