Gifty Twum Ampofo Wins Abuakwa North Seat

The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) Gifty Twum Ampofo has won the Abuakwa North by-election held Tuesday to retain the seat.

The Abuakwa North seat was declared vacant following the murder of the Member of Parliament of the constituency Joseph Boakye Danquah-Adu.

Gifty Twum Ampofo polled 10,033 votes representing 89.60% of total votes cast.

The other candidates; Isaac Kwartey of the United Front Party (UFP) managed to garner 901 votes representing 8.05% and Samuel Frimpong of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) had 263 votes representing 2.35%.

The ruling National Democratic Congress pulled out of the by-election in respect to the late MP.

The total valid votes cast were 11,197 even though there are 40,068 registered voters in the constituency. 

According to the Electoral Commission, per the statistics the total turnout was 28.22%.
