A group calling itself “Concerned Youths and Stakeholders” in Ho is demanding the removal of Mrs Fafa Adinyira, Ho Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) from office, for alleged acts of corruption.
A press release signed by one Dr. Aloysus Amevor and eight others and copied to the Ghana News Agency alleged that Mrs Adinyira arbitrarily awarded contracts to cronies and was involved in the inflation of contract sums.
It therefore gave President John Dramani Mahama two weeks ultimatum to relieve Mrs Adinyira of her post to forestall demonstrations in the regional capital.
The release stated that for three years running, the Assembly never advertised either in the daily newspapers or on its noticeboard any bid for contracts and that Mrs Adinyira handpicked and sole sourced certain unprofessional individuals, some of whom were management staff of the Assembly, with the view of “milking” the Assembly.
It said for instance, printing of the Assembly’s yearly calendar was awarded to one Mr Stephen Kumi, the Human Resource Officer of the Assembly.
The release further alleged that Mrs Adinyira handpicked Mr Cornelius Fugah, the Planning Officer of the Assembly to renovate the Assembly hall and that the same officer spent the Assembly’s GHC40,000.00 on tables, chairs and air conditioners.
It also alleged that the Assembly paid GHC87,000.00 to Wisdaf Company for the purchase of land for a new Assembly complex but that land was not bought and the money could not be traced three years running.
The release again alleged that Mrs Adinyira inflated the cost of skip containers she bought on behalf of the Assembly from Zoomlion from GHC5,000.00 to GHC10,000.00 without following procurement procedure.
The release said the people will not sit down for one individual to destroy gains made in the regional capital over the years and called on the President to sack the MCE.
“We are demanding Mrs Adinyira’s removal from office as Municipal Chief Executive to avoid any political catastrophe which can be inimical to the success of the National Democratic Congress,” it stated.
Meanwhile, Mrs Adinyira told the GNA on telephone that the allegations were not true and that the Assembly had records on all its activities for perusal.
