Winner of Ghana Premier League To Pocket $30,000

The winner of the elite local club competition will earn over twice the amount received by last season’s champions.

The winner of the Ghana Premier League will be walking away with $30,000 (¢114,000), according to the chairman of the Premier League Board, Ashford Tetteh-Oku.

The new prize is well over twice the amount received by Ashanti Gold for lifting the 2014-15 title.

The local topflight is currently without a headline sponsor following the withdrawal of First Capital Plus Bank (now Capital Bank) over “restructuring” reasons.

“We made a proposal to the GFA and they have approved that the champions for the 2016 Ghana Premier League will take home $30.000,” said Ashford Tetteh-Oku was quoted byGhanaSports as saying.

“I think this is very marvelous, wonderful and the FA must be commended.

“Last year, the champions club won ¢50.000 when there was even a headline sponsor.

“But in the absence of a headline sponsor this season, the FA is prepared to pay 30.000 US dollars.”

The GFA, however, insists talks are underway to get a new sponsor for the domestic competition.

Hearts of Oak currently sit atop the league standings after five rounds of matches this season.
