Hundreds of inhabitants of Jamasi in the Afigya Sekyere East constituency of the Ashanti Region were over the weekend provided with free medical screening and care by the NDC pressure group, Young Cadres Association (YCA).

The exercise, organized by the group in collaboration with Honourable Awudu Salim, the Parliamentary Candidate for the constituency, forms part of programmes outlined by the group to galvanize the party at the grassroots level and to support President John Dramani Mahama’s vision of providing improved universal health care for all Ghanaians.

Present at the event were Mr Edward Ayarkwah, the District Chief Executive of the Sekyere South District, executives of Young Cadres Association, the NDC Parliamentary Candidate of the constituency and the chairman and other executives of the NDC in the constituency.

Mr Edward Ayarkwah commended Young Cadres for initiating such a programme as it would go a long way to alleviate the burden of government in providing medical care for the people - He entreated other benevolent organizations to replicate the move by Young Cadres saying “health care provision is a shared responsibility by all in society.”

Michael Mwimbe Dery, President of the Young Cadres Association, revealed that his group had earmarked a number of activities to be undertaken across the country with a view to supporting the party retain power after the 2016 elections.

He encouraged executives of the party in the constituency to iron out their differences and support the Parliamentary Candidate and President Mahama in realizing the party’s “Operation 1 Million Votes” in the Ashanti Region.

However, Hon Awudu Salim thanked Young Cadres for their support and called on the group for further support to wrestle the seat from the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP). He disclosed how the good works undertaken by President Mahama in the constituency had endeared the party to the people thereby increasing the chances of the NDC winning the seat.

In a separate but related development, the Young Cadres Association had earlier on Saturday joined the people of Afigya Kwabre District also in the Ashanti Region during the National Sanitation Day to carry out clean-up exercises in Kodie and Buoho. Honourable Oppong Kyekeku who joined the group in undertaking the exercise was full of praise for Young Cadres for taking it upon themselves to support and give meaning to President Mahama’s vision to see a clean nation.

Bright Botchway, General Secretary of Young Cadres who spoke on behalf of the group called on all, especially party members to support every programme rolled out by government as it seeks to cut down on the prevalence of preventive diseases and improve the health of the citizenry. He further asked the youth in the district to be fearless in the face of any intimidation and to mobilize support for President Mahama and the party towards the 2016 elections.
