National Coordinator for the election observation body Coalition of Domestic Election Observers (CODEO), Mr. Albert Arhin has pooh-poohed those anticipating for election violence in 2016 due to the persistent demand by pressure groups to see transparency in the activities of the Electoral Commission (EC).

According to him, once there is understanding and transparency in the activities of the Electoral Commission by Ghanaians as well as trust, the peace of the 2016 election is inevitable.

Speaking on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' Morning Show, Mr. Arhin put to rest the anxiety of many stakeholders in the country’s elections that the persistent demonstrations and questioning of the activities of the Electoral Commission is rather meant to make the EC credible before, during and after the November 7 polls.

Commenting on President Mahama’s admonition to political parties to leave the EC to do its work, the CODEO coordinator said it is that same peace some pressure groups have constantly been monitoring the activities of the EC to instil confidence in Ghanaians.

“There will be peace in 2016 elections; it is a matter of understanding. Elections are not about fighting but it is about expressing individuals’ opinions through the ballot box which should not degenerate into a fight if people choose to demonstrate on the street about things that are not clear to them,” he stated.

He stressed that “disagreement in ideologies is not war and so at the end of the day, there will be peace; we have peace council and other stakeholders who are also playing their role to bring understanding.”
