Valentino Nii Noi Nortey is “likely” to change his mind from running as an independent parliamentary candidate for the Klottey Korle seat in the November polls, Greater Accra Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has said.

Mr Ishmael Ashitey told Chief Jerry Forson on Accra100.5fm’s morning show, Ghana Yensom, on Monday April 4, in an interview that “very prominent people in the party have sat and spoken to him and we are still talking…I think something good will happen”.

“…From what I heard from other meetings, it seems as if a lot of progress was made. …It’s likely [he’ll change his mind],” Mr Ashitey added.

The defeated parliamentary aspirant for Klottey Korle formally declared his desire to contest the legislative election as an independent candidate on March 9.

Mr Nortey polled 367 in the party’s re-run parliamentary primary against main contender Philip Addison’s 396 votes.

Mr Nortey had been declared winner in an earlier primary on August 2, 2015, but Mr Addison challenged the results in court, which was upheld, occasioning a re-run by the party.

At a press conference to communicate his decision to go independent, Mr Nortey had said: “I have consulted widely, I have prayed to my God, and I have spoken to my family and extensively considered the opinion of my kingmakers and the electorate. I have arrived at the decision, which resonates with the masses, to declare that I, Valentino Nii Noi Nortey, shall contest as parliamentary candidate in the 2016 parliamentary election in Klottey Korle constituency.”
