NDC Respects Fundamental Rights Of Every Ghanaian Kofi Adams

National Organizer of the ruling National Democratic Congress Kofi Adams has dismissed the assertion that the arrest of the MD of Marble and Granite for allegedly misleading the public over the rebranding of vehicles amounts to the abuse of state power.

According to Mr. Adams the party is very upset about the attempt by some people to put out false information about the NDC’s activities and will do everything possible to get down to the bottom of the rebranding matter.

Mr. Adams who was speaking to Accra-based Citi-Fm Monday morning said the intrusion of people’s privacy and the deliberate falsehood being churned out and put out on social media should be a matter of concern to every Ghanaian. “In this country we have laughed over too many serious and dangerous issues for so long and this must stop,,,,, if you take the picture of party vehicles parked at the yard of the national security coordinator and then turn around to tell the world that they were state vehicles, that is a very serious matter” , Mr. Adams stated.

Over the weekend the BNI picked up Dr. Edmund Ayo Ani, the Managing Director of Marbles and Granites for circulating false information and causing fear and panic. He was said to have taken the photos at a mechanic shop near his office on the Spintex Road in Accra. The matter went viral on social media with opinions divided concerning the rightness or wrongness of the BNI action. Some were of the view that the action was too harsh and that the arrest of Dr. Ani. was an abuse of state power. Some legal practitioners like Ace Ankomah and Sampson Lardi Ayenini were of the view that the arrest and detention of Dr. Ani amounted to the abuse of his rights and that it was not grounded in law.

In the midst of the furor, the National Security Advisor, Alhaji Baba Kamara came out to publicly admit that he ordered the arrest of Dr. Edmund Ayo Ani. He justified it in an interview with Accra based Joy Fm on Saturday that MD, Dr. Edmund Ayo Ani intruded on his privacy by taking pictures of the NDC branded Mahindra vehicles parked in his yard.

The National Security Advisor insisted that the photos which were published on social media could have compromised his security. He thus declared his intention of dragging Dr. Ani to court on Monday for him to explain the basis of his allegations.

Also commenting on the source of the vehicles Mr. Adams stated that the party’s finance committee was in charge of it and so he’s unable to speak to the issue. He however adds that it isn’t beyond the capacity of the NDC as a party to mobilize funds to procure vehicles for its campaigns. The national organizer also adds that the party has decided to buy the Mahindra vehicles because they are low fuel consumption ones. This according to him is a departure from what used to exist in the past where luxury vehicles were bought for the same purpose.

Meanwhile, the about 50 Mahindra pick-up trucks have reportedly been moved out of the said compound and have been distributed to the various regions for use.
