Court Orders Seizure Of NRSC Property . . . To Defray GHc 10.7m Judgement Debt�

An Accra High Court has ordered that properties belonging to the National Road Safety Commission (NRSC) should be seized to pay up a judgment debt to Safeway Printing Works Limited in Accra.

The National Road Safety Commission (NRSC), in 2008, contracted Safeway Printing Works Limited to do vehicle triangles for the Commission and since then have refused to pay.

The Commission failed to defray its cost to the company, resulting in the payment of the judgment debt to Safeway Printing Works Limited after they took legal action against the NRSC, proceeding to the Accra High Court, Commercial Division.

The court ruled on Thursday, 20th February, 2014 that an amount of GHC 10,767,240 and interest to run on the judgment debt till date of final payment should be paid by the NRSC to Safeway Printing Works Limited.

Failure by the Commission to pay the sum of money to Safeway Printing Works Limited, the court ordered for all movable and immovable properties of the National Road Safety Commission (NRSC) at the Commission's offices at the 2nd Avenue, Ridge in Accra to be sold to pay up the judgment debt.

The defendant's (NRSC) properties at Takoradi, Kumasi and Cape Coast and all vehicles of the NRSC are to be seized pending auction to fully pay the judgment debt.

The defendants are the National Road Safety Commission as 1st, Driver & Vehicle Licensing Authority as 2nd and BNO International Co. Limited as 3rd defendants.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Sheriff of the Accra High Court, Commercial Division,with the police on Wednesday morning went to take custody of three vehicles from the premises of the National Road Safety Commission after a 'Praecipe For Writ of FiFa' was issued on the 25th of February,2016.
