Omane Boamah Replies Ex-Prez Kufuor

Communications Minister, Omane Boamah says the people of the Volta Region are aware of the development projects the Mahama-led administration has executed and will not allow themselves to be deceived by the New Patriotic Party.

He said former president John Agyekum Kufuor’s unsubstantiated claims about some developmental projects in the region, aimed at swaying the electorates will not wash.

Speaking on Radio Gold’s news analysis programme ‘Alhaji and Alhaji’, Mr Boamah said “The people in the Volta Region will not be deceived about what the NPP has for them.

“In terms of who means well for the people of Volta, between the NDC and NPP, it is abundantly clear and they are aware of what the NDC does,” he said.

Mr. Kufour, at his residence this week accused the president John Mahama of dishonesty when he claimed the NPP did nothing for the people of the Volta Region, during the eight year tenure of the NPP.

He accused the NDC of squandering money meant for the development of the Volta Region particularly in their handling of the Keta Sea Defense Project.

Contrary to what the president said, Mr Kufuor insisted that it was during his tenure that the sea defence wall was finally constructed.

But the Communications Minister said the former president’s claims were untrue and called on him to prove them.According to him, if indeed the NDC had squandered money meant for the project, the NPP would have prosecuted persons involved.

“With the viciousness with which they prosecuted Dan Abodakpi and Tsatsu Tsikata, if they had evidence, it would have been one of the cases they would have prosecuted,” he said.

He stressed that in terms of development, the NPP comes nowhere close to what the NDC has done and continues to do for the people of the region.

“In terms of development, the NPP cannot match the NDC and they are aware.”

It would have been better in his view, if the former president kept silent, as he always does, otherwise he should have found ways of clearing his name with regards to the release of the Panama Papers in which the Kufuor family is said to have kept a secret account offshore.

“I think president Kufuor would have done himself and his family a lot of good either by not commenting at this stage or by speaking specifically to the issues.

“What he did could either be deliberate just to feed into the discussion or the debate that was ongoing around Volta region – a debate NPP will lose any day they bring it up - or to dwarf the panama papers or to destroy Akufo-Addo’s campaign.”
