Akokoamon Receive Breast Cancer Education And Clinical Screening

Breast Care International and Peace And Love Hospitals Team led by Dr. (Mrs.) Beatrice Wiafe Addai, the President and Founder of Breast Care International and C.E.O. of Peace And Love Hospitals educated the people of Akokoamon including students about Breast Cancer during the 10th Anniversary Celebration of Asomdwe Firi Awurade Fun Club on Saturday 5th April, 2016. The team was invited by the President and Leaders of the club.

Dr. Wiafe Addai, gave a verbal and pictorial presentation to the participants on breast cancer, a disease that has become a public health concern globally. She explained the potential risk factors that can increase a person’s chance of developing breast cancer in his/her lifetime, albeit the cause factor(s) are unknown to medical researchers. Her lecture also touched on prostate cancer to the benefit of the men in the association. She said the students should become breast cancer ambassadors in their homes and communities, where they can also spread the message by educating members of their immediate families and friends.

The methods of investigation that include ultra-sound scan, mammography and clinical breast examination were explained to the participants. They were informed that breast cancer is treatable and curable if detected early. Participants were given the opportunity to ask questions. Answers were given to all questions.

Nana Nsuah Yaa, the Obaahemaa of Akokoamon in her speech expressed her heartfelt gratitude to Breast Care International, for educating and clinical screening the women. She applauded Dr. Wiafe and her Team for honoring the club’s invitation during the 10th Anniversary. She advised the participants to follow the steps to do Breast Self-Examination and report any abnormalities to the hospital.        

The President of the Club, Mr. Francis Boakye also shared his concern about Breast Cancer, a disease that is so common among our women and also thanked the BCI Team for the great work they are doing for the country.

All the participants were screened. People with problems were counseled and advised to go for further investigation and treatment. The BCI team also screened the people for other Non Communicable Diseases such as Diabetes and Hypertension.
