Recognise The Role Of NPP, Government Urged

The Western Regional office of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has called on the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government to credit it (NPP) for the numerous development projects it initiated.

At a press conference held in Takoradi on Tuesday, Okatayie Amankwaa Afrifa, the Regional Communication Director of the NPP, said instead of crediting the NPP, government has deliberately delayed the completion of the projects initiated by the NPP and thus attracting additional costs.

The event was held under the banner: “The truth press conference on the State of Projects Commissioned and Inspected By President Mahama”.

Okatayie Afrifa said the NDC government was taking credit for NPP’s initiated projects without recognizing the efforts made by the NPP.

Okatayie Afrifa said some of such projects included the 98-kilometre Tarkwa/Bogoso/Anyanfuri road which the NPP Government secured funding from the European Union and commenced engineering specifications and designs.

Others are the modern educational infrastructure, establishment of the School of Business campus; a new auditorium, Applied Arts block and a Science laboratory all at Takoradi Polytechnic as well as the University of Mines and Technology-Tarkwa which also benefited from many educational facilities.

The rest are investments in the fisheries sector to support artisanal fishermen to improve their standards of living, while some coastal fishing communities were earmarked to benefit from a $148 million dollar projects.

Okatayie Afrifa described President Mahama’s inauguration of the conversion of some polytechnics into universities as mere propaganda and dishonesty.

He said the bill on the conversion had not been submitted to the Cabinet for deliberation, let alone presenting it to Parliament for final passage.

Okatayie Afrifa said President Mahama rushed to inaugurate the polytechnics to just to convince the electorate to vote for the NDC.
