Jamestown Lighthouse Turns Death Trap

Just run a web search on the Jamestown lighthouse in Accra and you will be amazed by the wonderful experiences shared by travellers and tourists.

Quite recently U Tour, a television documentary series which airs on Metro TV, hosted by Frema Ashkar and James Gardiner has been taking us back to our roots and introducing us to new and intetesting places of interest in indegenous Ghana. Among the places they’ve toured are Jamestown, Usshertown, Bonwire, Awukugua.

There are lots of interesting tourists sites that everyone especially those living in Accra should take advantage of experiencing.

Amongst the wonderful places was the Jamestown lighthouse. Even though the presenters were able to make the trip up the lighthouse and back down, they both admitted it was one of the most terrifying things they did. One of their observations was the wobbly wooden ladder placed right before the climb to the opening at the top. It appears it was a ‘replacement’ to the original metallic ladder, which now appears to be corroded due to the salty humidity.

The canopy walkway incident last year in Bunso in the Eastern Region was seen as just ‘an accident’ but guess what? Someone has noticed the potential danger climbing up the Jamestown lighthouse creates.
