The police in Apam in the Central Region have arrested two men for allegedly carrying 2,250 compressed parcels of a substance believed to be Indian hemp in a KIA truck.
The two suspects have been identified as Kofi Gyamfi, 29, driver, and Isaac Amanor, 25, driver’s assistant. According to the police, the parcels were being conveyed from Amasaman in the Greater Accra Region to Gomoa Dago, a fishing community in the Central Region, for onward transportation to Cote d’Ivoire when they were impounded.
Thirty large bags containing the 'wee' were retrieved from the suspects. Each of the bag contained 75 compressed parcels.
Modus Operandi
The suspects attempted to outsmart the police by concealing the parcels under sachets of water packed in a KIA truck, with registration number GT 8346 X.
Arrest
Briefing the media on the incident last Monday, the Swedru Divisional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent of Police, Mr Ahmed Issah Yakubu, said the police had intelligence around 10:30 a.m. that the truck loaded with the ‘wee’ and sachet water was travelling from Accra to Dago.
He stated that the patrol team was quickly mobilised to the scene where they impounded the vehicle after a thorough search.
He said the two suspects had refused to tell the police the owner of the seized Indian hemp.
