Two hospitals receive equipment worth 230,000 dollars

The Agogo Presbyterian Hospital and the Konongo-Odumase Government Hospital, both in the Asante Akim North Municipality, have taken delivery of equipment worth 230,000 dollars. The equipment, which includes surgical beds, anaesthetic machines and hospital beds were donated by the Associaton of Asante Akim Citizens living in Canada. Mr Alex Asante, Chairman of the association, who handed over the equipment to the hospitals at separate functions, said the gesture was their widow's mite towards the improvement on health delivery in their native communities. He said the association was committed to the welfare of the people back home and would continue to support health facilities and educational institutions in the area, for the benefit of the people. Mr Thomas Mensah, General Manager of the Agogo Presbyterian Hospital who received the equipment on behalf of the hospital commended the association for the gesture, which he said would enhance the performance of the hospital. He noted that the hospital was a referral facility for most district clinics and hospitals and therefore required modern equipment and that the donation was timely. He, however, entreated the association to consult the hospital in their subsequent donations to ensure that prioritised equipment is provided. Nana Batafo Akyeampong Nti, Chief of Konongo acknowledged the immense contribution that the association had made over the years towards development in the municipality and charged the authorities of the hospital to put the equipment to good use. He urged government to waive taxes on such equipment to encourage Ghanaians abroad to support local institutions.
