Horror! Man Buries Wife Beside Manhole

Police at Weija Divisional Police Command in the Ga South Municipality of the Greater Accra region are investigating the death of a woman who was alleged to have been killed by her husband, Today can report.

The 52-year-old husband of the deceased, whose name was given as Efo Kofigah, was arrested by the police on Monday, April 19, 2016 after the body of his sick wife was found buried beside a manhole in an uncompleted building they were residing in at New Bortianor, a suburb of Accra.

The arrest of Efo Kofigah, according to sources within the neighbourhood, was effected after the youth, family members and friends of the deceased, Daavi Akosua, who hails from Afefe in the Volta region, started suspecting the husband when the deceased went on missing for a number of days, having been ill for a while.

“Look when the woman fell sick we were aware that Mr. Efo Kofigah sent her to hospital at Kasoa but the doctors advised him to send her to Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH) in Accra since her condition was very critical.

“… but because Mr. Efo Kofigah did not have money to send his wife to Korle Bu, he brought her back to the house on the night of Friday, April 17, 2016. But unfortunately she died the following day and instead of the husband informing the family members or friends around he decided to bury her near a manhole,” the sources told Today yesterday.

Our sources stated that on Sunday, April 18, 2016 some friends of the diseased who were curious to know the state of her health went to her husband to find out, but he (the husband) told them that his wife was fine and was asleep.

Today gathered that Efo Kofigah knowing what he had done prevented all attempts by the loved ones of the late Daavi to see her.

That, according to the sources, made the people suspicious about the whereabouts of the deceased.

According to the sources, they then hatched a plan with some friends to get Efo Kofigah, who is a mason, to get drunk so they could get him to tell them the whereabouts of his late wife.

The plan, which worked to perfection, according to the sources, saw Efo Kofigah disclose that “my wife died and l buried her and that nobody can ask me anything.”

The youth of the area, Today learnt, following this confession, confronted Efo Kofigah to show them where he buried his late wife, but he refused.

Determined to know where the body was, the sources said, the youth arrested him by themselves and handed him over to the Weija Divisional Police Command for interrogation.

And it was during the interrogation that Efo Kofigah admitted having buried the wife beside a manhole and subsequently took the police to the place of the burial, the sources indicated.

When Today contacted Weija Police yesterday, some senior police officers who pleaded to speak on condition of anonymity confirmed the incidence, stating that “the suspect admitted in his caution statement that he buried his wife beside a manhole in the house they were living at New Bortianor.”

According to the police personnel, Mr. Efo Kofigah confirmed to them that his wife was seriously sick and as a result of that died on the night of Saturday, April 17, 2016, but because he did not have money to send the corpse to mortuary, he decided to bury her on Sunday, April 18, 2016 without informing the family members of the deceased.

Mr. Efo Kofigah is currently in police custody at the Weija Divisional Police Command pending further investigations.
