Avoid The Politics Of Insults - Former Moderator

The Very Reverend Dr Edem Tettey, a former Moderator of the Global Evangelical Church, has urged political parties to avoid politics of insults and rather engage the electorate on their agenda for the country’s development.

Speaking to journalists after a farewell service in honour of the synod committee executive of the church, Rev. Dr Tettey said all that the political parties needed to do was to tell the voters what they would do when voted into office to enable them to decide.

He said the politics of vilification and insults would not do any good to society and that politicians must move to a very progressive and advanced form of politics.

“Let us not be attacking one another, I think that is backwards and it is not the type of democracy we need in Ghana,” he said.

Rev. Dr Tettey said while every Ghanaian had a right to pray for his or her party or candidate to win, the ultimate would be to pray for God’s will to be done.

“You see we must admit that everybody has somebody in life or everybody likes or prefers that this person gets into power but these are our individual feelings. If at the end of the day a winner emerges we must all submit because we have prayed that God’s will be done,” he said.

Rev. Dr Tettey emphasized the need to train the youth and asked parents to set good example for the children and teach them about the gospel.

He said the mission schools should be returned to the churches to instill discipline in the youth.

The executives that were honoured were Very Rev. Dr Tettey, immediate past Moderator, Rev. Prince Tefe, immediate past Synod Clerk, Professor Reimmel Kwame Adosraku, immediate past Male Presbyter and Professor Mrs Victoria Pearl Dzogbefia, immediate past Female Presbyter.

They were honoured with citations and an undisclosed amount of money and parcels from well-wishers.

Rt. Rev. Dr Setorwu Ofori, the Moderator, in his congratulatory message, said the executive committee during their tenure of office helped the church to make very great strides and prayed that God would reward them accordingly.

There were congratulatory messages from the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (GPCC) to Very Rev. Dr. E. K. Tettey who served on the National Executive Council as the Treasurer.
