The mortal remains of Jake Otanka Obetsebi-Lamptey, the immediate past Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) who passed away sometime last month would be laid to rest today.
A state burial is being organized for him at the Forecourt of the State House this morning after which the body will be interred at a private ceremony.
His remains was flown into the country on Tuesday, April 12, 2016 and was met on arrival by party gurus including former President Kufuor, flagbearer, Nana Addo Danquah Akufo Addo, Hackman Owusu Agyemang, acting Chairman, Freddie Blay and other NPP senior officials and national executives.
An all-white funeral and thanksgiving service is scheduled for 9am at the forecourt of the Statehouse today.
Before that, the remains of the late NPP Chairman is expected to be taken to the party’s Asylum Down national headquarters to enable party faithful pay their last respect and to honour his memory.
A well-attended pre-burial service was held in his memory yesterday evening at the Accra Ridge Church from 6pm to 10pm.
No wreaths are expected to be laid at the ceremony.
His mortal remains would later be laid to rest at a private location.
Jake is survived by a widow, Mrs Esther Belinda Obetsebi-Lamptey and two children, Mrs Charis Obetsebi-Lamptey Zwennes and Mrs. Rachelle Obetsebi-Lamptey Senghor.
