MPs Mum Dies

The death is reported of 70-year-old Madam Adjoa Seidu Nikaba, mother of Doris Asibi Seidu, the late Member of Parliament (MP) for Chereponi constituency. Madam Adjoa died in the early hours of Saturday September 26, 2009, a day before the final funeral rites of her daughter, according to family sources. Daily Guide was told that a day before her departure to the ancestral world, she jokingly told family members it was her wish to die and be buried at a time a thick crowd would converge on the town. Having shared this joke, she was reported to have gone ahead to encourage the widower not to be disheartened over the death of Doris, urging him to keep himself together and face life with its realities. Unfortunately however, she passed away the following morning, true to her wish, without the slightest sign of ailment, leaving behind seven children and a number of grand children. The late Adjoa was buried on the same day just by her 40-year-old daughter in the family house at Chereponi in the wake of heavy political presence in the region. The entire atmosphere was greeted with wails and shedding of uncontrollable tears when kingpins of the New Patriotic Party (NP) and some foot soldiers visited the house to express their condolences to the bereaved family. Her death, NPP sources told Daily Guide, was a big blow to the party but deputy minority leader, Ambrose P. Dery reiterated the need for the party to remain united and rain the seat in honour of both mother and daughter.
