Five boys between the ages of eight and eleven years have been cited for allegedly gang-raping a 13-year-old girl said to be suffering from epilepsy, at Amasaman in the Greater Accra Region.
The minors (name withheld) allegedly committed the act in the absence of the mother of the victim on March 29, 2016, but the Amasaman police reportedly refused to act on the case.
According to the mother, two of the boys are eight years of age each, one is ten years and the others are each eleven years.
She said when the matter was reported to the Amasaman police, they gave her a hospital form to take her daughter to the hospital for examination before they could act on it, but when she brought the report, they did nothing about it and was just being tossed around, thus compelling her to speak to the media about the matter.
The Accra Regional Police Command has since taken over the case from the Amasaman police, after the woman had allegedly accused them of refusing to act on the case.
ASP Effia Tenge, the Accra Regional spokeswoman, told DAILY GUIDE the regional police would conduct fresh investigations into the matter, even though the suspects were yet to be arrested.
Meanwhile, a doctor’s report produced by the mother of the victim from the Amasaman District Hospital confirmed that her daughter’s hymen had been forcefully broken.
Narrating how the incident occurred, the woman said on March 29, 2016, she returned from work one afternoon and was told that about five boys had defiled her daughter through the anus and her private part.
“My daughter was sick so I gave her first aid and took the matter to the police station,” she said.
The suspects, she said, were still moving freely while her child’s situation continued to deteriorate by the day.
