Secretary of Taxi Drivers Association, Mr. Jonas Abeke, has advised colleague drivers in Ghana to tread carefully on the road to prevent fatal accidents from happening.
Speaking in an interview with Today, Mr. Abeke raised questions with regard to the manner in which most of drivers fail to adhere to the rule of the culture of vehicle maintenance before they set off to their daily businesses.
According to him, it is high time drivers in Ghana underwent necessary trainings to educate them on the do’s and don’ts in driving including certain uncommon habits such as over-speeding, over-taking, drinking, disobeying traffic regulations as well as lawlessness which are uncalled for.
He charged key stakeholders in the road sector including National Road Safety Commission, Ghana Private and Road Transportation Union, MTTA and PROTOA to take compulsory measures not only to discipline but also fine offenders of the road Safety Law.
“National Road Safety Commissions in Ghana have huge tasks on their hands which are to ensure that big trucks are properly maintained and are road worthy before they are put out there. I urge fellow drivers to also asses their cars very well to help minimise accidents. Lives lost are really something painful to deal with that is why we should check the way we drivers,” he advised.
He lauded President Mahama for the good job done in terms of construction of roads in the country.
