Argentina To Support Ghana's Agric. Sector

The President, John Evans Atta Mills, at the just-ended 2nd Africa-South America Summit in Isla Magarita, Venezuela, has secured the support of Argentina to re-engineer Ghana�s agriculture sector. President Mills held bilateral talks with Argentine President, Cristina Fernandez where he put across his Administration�s commitment to re-energizing the agricultural sector to create jobs, make Ghana self-sufficient in food and livestock production, as well as create an export market. In particular, President Mills expressed his deep concern for Ghana�s moribund livestock sub-sector hence the extremely compelling need for Ghana to seek assistance to resuscitate the sector. On her part, President Fernandez committed Argentina to supporting President Mills� drive of making the agric sector a key pivot around which his development agenda revolves. It has been agreed that to firm up the talks between the two Presidents, a high powered Ghanaian delegation will in the shortest possible time, visit Argentina to hem in the issues after which the Argentine Government will make available to Ghana, technical and other expertise. In the area of education, President Mills secured the support of Argentina to boost the study of the Spanish language in Ghana. To this effect, Argentina is prepared to allow Ghanaian students to visit the country to give practical meaning to the study of the language. Both Presidents, within the broad spectrum of South-South co-operation, agreed to deepen bilateral ties between Ghana and Argentina.
