The minister of the Interior, Mr Prosper Douglas Bani, has called for the assistance of the public to smoke out individuals who are behind recruitment scams in the country.

He said while measures had been put in place by the security agencies to bring the situation under control, there was the need for close collaboration and cooperation from the public to help fight the canker.
 
“I plead with the public to help make the perpetrators of this criminal act face the full rigours of the law,” he added.

Mr Bani was speaking at the 12th graduation parade of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) in Accra yesterday.

Recruitment scam has become a major concern for the various security agencies in recent times. As part of efforts to stop the practice, some state security officers and other individuals have been arrested.

Graduation 

In all, 91 cadet officers, made up of 27 females and 64 males, graduated.

The officers had been taken through a seven-month training programme in varying subjects, including fire safety, leadership and management, work ethics, road traffic extrication and physics of fire combustion.

Mr Bani, who was also the reviewing officer for the occasion, was honoured with a plaque by the Chief Fire Officer, Dr Albert Brown Gaisie.  

Mr Bani commended the service for its education on fire safety to reduce the occurrence of fire in homes and offices.

Government support 

He reiterated the government’s continuous support to the service by providing it with the needed logistics to enhance its operations, as well as ensuring that the challenges confronting the service in handling all manner of fires in the country would be overcome.

“Government has begun the process of providing equipment, including turn-table ladders which will reach much higher than even 20 floors, to make fighting fires on high-rise buildings easier.

“We have also acquired 24 fire engines which will soon be added to the existing ones to aid the operations of the service,” he added.

The minister also implored the graduates to exhibit a high sense of discipline and moral character in their work, bearing in mind always that they were serving mankind.

He further charged them to be instruments of change as they assumed higher responsibilities and roles in their work.
