Stop Hero-Worshipping Pastors - Presiding Bishop

The Most Reverend Professor Emmanuel Kwaku Asante, Presiding Bishop-elect of the Methodist Church, Ghana, has condemned hero-worshipping of pastors and church leaders by some Christians. This, he said, was fuelling factionalism, division and unhealthy competition among the leaders, which could derail the focus of the church. Rev Prof. Asante was speaking at a farewell service held for him by the Kumasi Diocese of the Church at the Adum Wesley Cathedral in Kumasi. Until his election to head the Church in the country, he was the Diocesan Bishop of Kumasi. Rev Prof. Asante asked pastors, church leaders and Christians to channel their talents and abilities towards the growth and well-being of the church. The Presiding Bishop-elect asked Christians to eschew arrogance, self-seeking glory and submit themselves to Christian values for the growth of Christendom and support each other. He expressed gratefulness to the leadership of the Diocese for the understanding and co-operation during his tenure as Bishop and expressed he has every reason to believe that the same would be extended to his successor. The Very Rev. Prof Osei Safo-Kantanka, the new Diocesan Bishop, pledged to work in collaboration with all stakeholders to ensure the churchs growth.
