Sunday, May 1, 2016, was not a good day for the people of Manhyia North Constituency in the Kumasi Metropolis as two officials of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) were subjected to severe beatings by their regional chairman, Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, aka, Chairman Wontumi.

Wontumi, after subjecting the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Collins Owusu Amankwaa, to some hefty slaps, proceeded to the constituency’s Secretary, Felix Ibrahim and also subjected him to severe beatings.

Felix who was also observing the Limited Voter Registration exercise had little chance of escaping the onslaught of the angered regional chair had it not been the intervention of a Police officer.

The incident happened at a registration center named Nana Fodjour House in Krofrom in Kumasi.

Felix who narrated his ordeal to Kasapa102.3 FM Nana Yaa Boamponsem Ameyaw said Wontumi whilst beating him also threatened to kill him.

“We were standing there and chatting. All of a sudden, we saw a Land Cruiser, a pickup and a motor bike arrived at the scene where some people alighted and started asking for the whereabouts of Felix. I then saw the regional chairman who alighted from one of the cars and before I realized, he pounced on me and started beating me up”.

“He beat me mercilessly and one of his bodyguards even asked him whether he should shoot me but before Wontumi could respond a Police Officer came from behind and rescued me”.

“Wontumi whilst beating me threatened to kill me. He never told me what I have done wrong to deserve this beating”, he narrated.

When asked whether he has reported the incident to the Police, the soft spoken Constituency Secretary replied “I am a law abiding citizen and I will subject myself to the laws of this country to take its course”.
