Blood Ritual Hits Kumasi

Residents of Abrepo Junction ear Bantama in Kumasi woke up on Sunday morning to the horrific scene of a blood sacrifice in front of a popular neigbourhoold drug store. In a typical ritual fashion, a black pot laden with blood and covered with red cloth was placed right in front of Asempa Pharmacy perhaps by get-rich-quick schemers known in local parlance as sakawa operators. The gory spectacle was first seen by a woman who woke up around 5:00am to sweep the place. Filled with fear, she reportedly shouted on top of her voice, attracting a crowd to the scene. Soon, curious neigbours and persons from other vicinities in the metropolis who got wind of the bizarre news rushed to the scene and jostled each other to catch a glimpse of the ritual pot. A slain miniature feathered animal, believed to be either a dove or chicken, was also tied to one of the huge padlocks used to lock the drug store. The black pot with a red rope tied around it had been placed directly under the dead animal to allow the dripping blood fall into it. Fresh blood, suspected to be human scattered in front of the entire building, was emanating a strong odour and had attracted houseflies. That person that performed the ritual at the time of filing this report was nowhere to be found, but sources assumed whoever was behind it, performed the act in the still of the night to avoid being seen. None of the awe-struck onlookers, including muscularly built men, could muster courage to touch the ritual pot, let alone remove it; until three young pastors and a traditionalist chanced upon the scene. An eyewitness, Courage Quashie a.ka Surprise told the Daily Guide newspaper the pastors prayed while the traditionalist poured libation on the ritual items. They then hauled the items into the garbage. Another witness who gave her name only as Afia suspected the blood on the floor was that of a human being because of the deep stench that was emanating from it. Not mincing words, she stated that the perpetrators did it for monetary purposes: This is purely sakawa and it might haven done by one of the young boys who want to ride in big cars with out toiling for it.
