Non Availability of the School Feeding Programme (SFP) in some Basic Schools in the Atebubu Amantin District in the Brong Ahafo Region has seriously contributed to low enrolment in such schools. Conducting the Daily Dispatch round some of the Basic Schools by the District Chief Executive, Mr Sanja Nanja last week, it was realised that some of the classrooms were virtually empty because such schools were not running the School Feeding Programme (SFP). Some of the schools visited include Duabone District Assembly Basic School, Densi D/A Basic School, Sabidi D/A Basic School and Kumfia D/A Basic School. Mr Nanja was disappointed about the low turnout of which some of the schools recorded zero, because the SFP had not been introduced in those schools. Later investigations revealed that some of the parents prefer their wards some of whom are almost toddlers to walk long distances to school where they can benefit from the SFP. Some of the teachers who spoke to newsmen on condition of anonymity expressed total dismay about the concept of the SFP whether it is a blessing or a curse. Another revelation that came to the notice of the Daily Dispatch was that most of the teachers that newsmen interacted with are untrained. Further, what the Daily Dispatch observed was that most of the pupils looked unkempt and were wearing un-prescribed school uniforms. Another observation was that there is a �Class� called Attaches. There are no Nursery schools but some parents leave their babies with their siblings in the schools where they attend or the children would have to stay at home to take care of those �babies� whilst the parents go to their farms.
