Education Will Be A Major Priority For The NPP Govt. - Sammy Awuku

The National Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Sammy Awuku says education will be a major concern of the party when voted into office since education is the foundation upon which the youths can develop themselves to take up leadership roles in society.

Speaking on the sidelines at the inauguration of the Youth leadership Parliament in Accra, he said that education should be the key thing the youth should focus on when voting on Nov. 7

“Nana Akufo-Addo’s policy on education is clear. We still believe in the free SHS, when people complete school there are some basic questions they should ask. How is the educational sector faring, friends who have completed SHS, Tertiary Institution what are they doing, are they working, the youth should interact with people to understand these issues, everything they read should not be taking hook line and sinker. The youth should be able to make an informed judgement, should be deep in thought, and critical in terms of analysis,” he emphasized.

He commended the organizers for establishing the youth leadership parliament which will provide a platform for the youth to discuss pertinent national issues.

“This is a great opportunity for the youth to share ideas as the world is now shaped by ideas and people with great minds. It will also churn out great thinkers for the country. People who will think outside the box not close circuit ones. This will also groom and prepare them .It will shape their opinions. There are some who would end up at the presidency, not necessarily becoming parliamentarians, some will become Captains of industries, others will transform the Civil Service, public service etc.”

He adviced the youths to vote for a political party who would address their needs as the needs of people vary “The needs of SHS are different from those in teacher training colleges, polytechnics, nursing trainees, Universities etc. This government has done well, this government has failed etc. are some of the things the youth will consider before casting their vote. The youth should have an open mind, deep in thought, and critical in their analysis to assess various issues in the country and vote accordingly.

He urged the youth to vote for the NPP as the creation of jobs will be of paramount interest to an Akufo- Addo led administration.

“The NPP government will address the current unemployment situation in the country when voted into office. Within the first year of our Administration, we will take steps to create incentives to support them. We will give support to the industries by providing incentives to them to enable them employ these graduates as most employers ask of job experience. Where do these graduates get the experience from? Without this experience the companies end up throwing them away. The goodwill that the government will get will enable us create jobs,” he noted.

He however appealed to political parties to have mentorship and role model as part of their programmes.
