New Juaben Municipality recorded 30 challenge cases out of 2,936 registered voters recorded at the end of the first phase of the on-going limited voters registration exercise.
Mrs Lydia Egyiri Sackey, the Municipal Electoral Officer, who disclosed this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) said, 15 of the cases have been investigated and seven have been cleared.
She said, the remaining eight cases needs further investigations to ascertain the veracity of the challenge while the Municipal Review Committee sits on the other 15 cases next week.
The challenge cases were on suspected registration of minors, non-Ghanaian citizens and non –residents with the majority being registration of minors.
According to her, no violent incident was recorded in the municipality during the first phase and all the machines worked perfectly and expressed the hope that, the second phase, which began on Wednesday with a smooth take-off would continue in the same trend.
She urged people not to take the law into their own hands as they deal with people they perceive as unqualified to register but rather fill the challenge forms and allow the law to work to ensure an incident-free and successful exercise.
The Electoral Officer also advised those who have misplaced their voter identity cards not to take part in the ongoing exercise but should report at the Electoral Commission office for their missing cards to be replaced or risk their names being deleted from the voters register.
