Trickster Swindles School Boy GHc5,000 Inside Osu Barclays Bank Hall (VIDEO)

A confidence trickster went home smiling with GHc5,000 after he swindled a school boy at a Barclays Bank branch in Accra. The incident happened on March 14, 2016, when the student went to the Osu branch of Barclays bank to make a deposit on behalf of his mother.

The teenager, who is a student of the GES Model School at Osu, upon reaching the bank, was approached by a young man, presumably in his early thirties, who posed as a worker at the bank, and offered to help him facilitate the deposit process.

Narrating the incident to Citi News, a brother of the school boy, said the victim became comfortable because the trickster told him he was an old student of his school and could help him do the transaction quickly. “The man told him he is an old student of the school and that got him excited. He told the guy that he will help him go through the process. He actually pointed him to one of the sofas and directed him to sit there.”

He said the suspect walked upstairs, surveyed the place and came back to call the student upstairs. A CCTV footage sighted by Citi News showed the suspect pocket the cash after collecting it from the student at an isolated place. The boy’s mother has since sued the Bank, which was ordered by the court to release the CCTV footage.

In the footage, the trickster asked the student to sit down while he fast-tracks the process for him and bolted. Citi News’ checks further revealed that, this was the fourth time the suspect had duped customers at the same bank. A police source who does not want to be named, has confirmed the latest incident to Citi News. However he was released after the first three incidents because the victims were frustrated as he was unable to repay the money after his arrest.
