President John Dramani Mahama has instructed the Minister of Roads, Inusah Fuseini, to terminate government’s contract with a company working on the Gomoa Ankamu-Dawurampong-Afransi road in the Central Region.

Speaking as part of his ‘Accounting to the People’ tour in the Central Region, the President explained that the contractor working on the road has failed to deliver on time as agreed and should be replaced.

He further expressed the hope that the move will ensure that the project is completed on time.

“I have seen the road project for myself and the kind of miserable work that the contractor is doing it is obvious that this road project is above his capacity. I have therefore instructed the Roads Minister, Alhaji Inusah Fuseini, to terminate his contract so that it can be given to another contractor who can deliver this project in good time. When this happens I know that by the time I come here again to campaign, we will all see the progress on that stretch of road,” said the President. 

President Mahama made the intervention when he visited the Gomoa West District as part of his tour of the region.

In 2015, some residents of the area threatened to vote against the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) if it fails to construct the road.

They argued that the bad nature of the road had affected farming activities since it is the only accessible route through which farmers in the area and surrounding towns and villages use in transporting their farm produce.

The road links Agona Swedru, Ajumako and its surrounding towns to the Kumasi road.

Contractors have largely delayed on projects sometimes due to government’s failure to pay them on time as well as lack of supervision by government.
