Government renews curfew in Bawku and Gushegu area

Government has renewed the curfew imposed on Bawku Municipality and Gushegu Township and their immediate environs for another week with effect from Monday, September 28. It said the curfew hours would be from 1200 hours to 0400 hours each day. A statement issued in Accra on Tuesday and signed by Dr. Kwasi Apea-Kubi, Deputy Minister for the Interior, said the decision was necessitated by advice from the Upper East and Northern Regional Security Councils and an Executive Instrument. It expressed government�s appreciation to the chiefs, elders, opinion leaders and the people in the areas for sustaining peace. The statement said: �Government wishes to implore the people in the affected areas to give peace a chance and use non violent means to resolve all conflicts that arise.� Government however, reiterated that there is a ban on all persons in the Bawku Municipality, Zabzugu, Bindari, Pusiga, Zoasi and the Gushegu Townships and their environs from carrying arms, ammunitions or any offensive weapons and anyone found with any arms or ammunition would be arrested and prosecuted.
