A 15-year old boy in the Wa municipality of the Upper West Region has been arrested by the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police Service for allegedly defiling a 5-year old boy.
The suspect, who is a Junior High School (JHS) 1 student, was arrested after the victim reported the incident to his aunt. Head of Upper West Regional DOVVSU, ASP Benjamin Mensah told The Chronicle that the victim was on his way home from school when he met the suspect, who invited him (suspect) to undertake an activity.
The suspect then took the victim to an obscure place and asked him to sleep on the ground. When the poor boy obeyed his instruction, the suspect reportedly removed his (victim’s) shorts and inserted his penis into his anus. After he was done, ASP Benjamin Mensah noted, the suspect “asked him to go home, warning him not to tell anybody”.
However, when the victim got home, he reported the matter to his aunt, who later confronted the suspect’s mother with the information.
ASP Mensah said the victim’s mother organized some men in her area to arrest the suspect and handed him over to the police. The suspect, upon interrogation, admitted having canal knowledge of the victim.
ASP Mensah further told The Chronicle that because the suspect is a minor, they would grant him bail, whilst investigation continues.
Meanwhile, a report from the regional hospital, where the victim is on admission, affirms there is an inflammation of the anus.
