BNI Chases Nanas Boys

Some heavyweights close to Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), have been put under the radar, allegedly being trailed by officials from the National Security and the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI), sources within the security outfit have hinted DAILY GUIDE.

Reasons for the monitoring were not immediately known but over the weekend, DAILY GUIDEpicked up information that operatives of the BNI were sent Thursday night to locate and do a reconnaissance of residences of Messrs Carlos Von Brazzi, Perry Curtis Okudzeto – a deputy Communication Director of the party – and Lord Commey, former NPP National Organiser. All the three are close associates of the NPP standard bearer.

The security sources told DAILY GUIDE that the BNI undertakes such an operation of preliminary surveying only when the outfit wants to swoop on a specific target; and that it is likely the homes of the three party stalwarts would be invaded in a matter of days.

Other people from the NPP stock are said to be on the radar of the BNI as the November 7 elections approach.

According to the sources, the operation might raise the already high political temperature, less than six months to the November general election.

Not too long ago, some 15 armed men in a borrowed military uniform raided the NPP headquarters at dawn with an excuse that they were looking for guns. Though they had no search warrant, they freely vandalised the place and went away untouched by the police, despite a confession by the leader of the invaders that he hired retired soldiers and gave them military uniforms for the operation.

This was followed by a similar raid and vandalisation of the private offices of the Danquah Institute – a political think tank –  again by state security agents who had no search warrant.
