Spio To Quit NDC?

There is simmering tension within the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) as one of their front liners, Dr. Ekow Spio Garbrah in a subtle manner prepares a fertile ground for his subsequent breakaway from the tortoise-like President Mills led government to form an action oriented party that believes in ACTION NOW. Dr. Garbrah who seems to be choking from the be patient with government mantra from President J.E.A Mills has been compelled to lay bare his frustrations at governments failure to chalk any successes since nine months of being in power. Dr. Garbrah makes his intensions clear. All those of us who sacrificed a lot of our time, money and efforts to enable the NDC win the 2008 elections are not simply going to stand quietly and, while a few people mess the partys future up, he threatened. Ghanaians may be patient and long suffering but increasingly, they are ready to punish at the ballot box political parties and leaders who waste their time. Dr Garbrah wrote, apparently predicting the defeat of the ruling NDC in the year 2012 general elections. Obviously drawing inspiration from the damage Alan Kyeremantengs brief departure from the NPP caused the partys fortunes in the 2008 elections, Dr. Garbrah stated in the case of the NPP, when Alan Kyeremanteng felt after the NPP congress that he and his supporters were being marginalized, he resigned from the party, causing a major split. He further questioned are NDC members not aware that just that split is what could have caused the NPP the mere 40,000 votes with which they lost the last elections and which has gotten the NDC into power? He continued, does that NPP experience need to be repeated in the NDC too? Is anyone listening in the NDC government? Those who have eyes to see, let them see, and those who have ears to hear, let them hear, the failed NDC presidential hopeful advised. Dr. Garbrah who is the Chief Executive of the Commonwealths Telecommunication Organization based in London threw more salvoes in his article titled Honouring Nkrumahs legacy: A Challenge for NDC, when he wrote some 60 years ago, when Nkrumah realized that his colleagues in the UGCC were acting too slowly, he chose to form another party to enable Ghanaians to gain our political independence more quickly. Today, according to him, There is a general feeling around the country and in the Diaspora that the NDC government is not moving fast enough to bring economic relief to Ghanaians. Analyzing the article which was published in the Daily Graphic on17th September, 2009 and continued in the same newspaper on Wednesday September 23, 2009, a worried NDC supporter told the Crusading Guide newspaper that in fact what Spio has written is an indication that he is quitting the party. How can he degenerate the government like this in public and continue to be a party member? Another leading NDC member, Ato Ahwoi who is believed to have heavily sponsored the party in the last elections in a quick rebuttal posted on www.peacefmonline.com questioned the honesty behind Dr. Spio Garbrahs scathing articled describing it as deceptively couched. Mr. Ahwoi who said he read the article with interest and disbelief, replied, Spio, I get the impression that you are trying to intimidate the President to give you a cabinet appointment. Questioning Dr. Garbrahs analogy of Mrs. Hilary Clinton in President Obamas government, Mr. Ahwoi wrote are you (Spio) implying because you lost miserably to the President (Prof Mills) in the NDC primaries, he should invite you into an important position in his government? Spio, Mr. Ahwoi added please remember that Mrs. Clinton never said Mr. Obama was a sick man and Will Never Win an election. Now why are you so desperate to serve in the government headed by someone who will never win election? My NDC brothers, if President Mills does not appoint you as a Minister, please continue to piss in as many times as you want, he told Dr. Garbrah. Dr. Garbrah in his article also questioned the incompetence of the current crop of ministers who were appointed by President Mills. The NDC has halls full of very qualified and experienced people, most in Ghana, some in the diaspora. So, large segments of the public have been asking on radio stations why the government may have chosen to field some players from its Team B when many Team A players are available and are able to play?, he queried. Can the government really move quickly if it appoints people who may mean well but who lack the requisite qualifications? He further asked.
