The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Suhum, Margaret Ansei, has denied frustrating the efforts of the Member of Parliament for the Area MP) from carrying out projects in the area using his share of the Common Fund.
The MP, Frederick Opare Ansah, and his supporters have accused Ms. Ansei of refusing to release an amount of GHS 12, 375 for a roofing project by the lawmaker.
But in a reaction on Accra100.5FM on Monday, May 16, Ms. Ansei, who is also running for parliament on the ticket of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), said Mr. Opare Ansah was not adhering to procedure. She confirmed to host C.J. Forson to have received a letter from Mr. Ansah to her requesting the said amount from his share of the MP’s Common Fund towards the roofing of a project he had undertaken, but the MP had failed to mention the specific project.
Speaking on the station’s morning show, Ghana Yensom, the MCE said: “Honourable [Ansah] should let us abide by the law so that the money given him, whether in power or opposition, will be invested in projects which will benefit the people of Suhum. If you write me a letter that you are going to buy roofing sheets, which is GHc12, 375, and you fail to tell me which school or church you intend sending the roofing sheets, whether it is for the Suhum Municipality or some other area, or your personal project, and I give you the Common Fund, then it means I have not been truthful to the people of Ghana and Suhum.
According to her, she had written back to the MP’s office asking him “to do the right thing” before funds for the roofing sheets were released to him.
Ms Ansei also rejected the charge by supporters of the NPP in the constituency that she was sabotaging the work of her opponent in the 2016 parliamentary poll, wondering how she could, after only two months in office, become so powerful to have the capacity to frustrate the work of a man who had served as MP for 11 years.
