Dr Nana Ato Arthur, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA) Constituency, has cautioned the New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters not to be complacent.
He said even though it was evident that Ghanaians were fed-up with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Government; “we have to work extra hard and let everyone hear our message of hope to secure us the victory.”
Dr Ato Arthur, who is seeking re-election, was addressing party faithful, supporters and sympathizers at Elmina to kick start his 2016 campaign ahead of the November 7 polls.
He said the present government had worsened the economic situation of the country and rendered many more Ghanaians poorer.
Dr Arthur said most people living in deprived and rural communities were still living under poorer conditions while the few in urban areas continued to struggle to make ends meet contrary to what pertained under former President Kufuor’s administration.
“Nothing seems to be working now as ordinary Ghanaians continue to wallow in abject poverty," he said.
He cited the high cost of electricity amidst erratic power supply that had collapsed many companies rendering several Ghanaians unemployed.
Dr Arthur said Nana Akufo Addo, when given the nod, would bring back the teacher trainee and nursing allowances which had been scraped by the Government and work tirelessly to put smiles on the faces of Ghanaians.
The Member of Parliament for Effia Constituency, Mr Joseph Cudjoe, said the high cost of utility bills was an indication that the Government had been insensitive to the plight of Ghanaians.
He said Ghanaians could not relate to the Government’s so-called massive investment in infrastructure as it did not translate into increase output, job creation and better living conditions for the ordinary Ghanaian.
“So what is the essence of the claim by the NDC Government that they have built more roads, schools, hospitals, bridges, stadia, and markets when in their seven years people are experiencing more hardship than ever,” he said.
Mr Joe Ghartey, the Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, said: “The economic situation in the country had worsened under the leadership of President Mahama to the extent that the cost of electricity per month for ordinary Ghanaians was more expensive than their house rents.”
He, therefore, appealed to Ghanaians to vote for Nana Akufo-Addo to transform the country and make life more comfortable.
Party top executives including the MP for Mampong, Mr Francis Adai Nimo, Mr Yaw Owusu Boateng, the MP for Asene Akroso Manso, Mr Kwamina Duncan, the Central Regional Secretary and a host of others from across the country were present to support their colleague.
