Shocking footage of a group of women brawling in front of police officers has prompted community elders in far-north Queensland to call on authorities to 'take action'.

The video shows a number of young women in the far-north Queensland community of Aurukun swinging punches at each other as onlookers film.

Barefoot and bare-knuckled the a pair throw punches before another woman steps in to take one of the fighter's place.

A number of  police officers can be seen standing by their vehicles, but appear to make no attempt to break up the fight.

Later in the footage a police officer can be seen speaking to one of the onlookers, as the fist fight continued behind him.
