Metro Mass Transit Calls For Relocation Of Workshop

The management of Metro Mass Transit Limited (MMTL), a public transportation company, has called for the relocation of its workshop at Kaneshie in Accra.

According to the Managing Director of the MMTL, Mr Al-Hassan Ligbi, the current location floods whenever there is heavy rain, making it difficult for the company to address its technical challenges effectively.

“Our technical unit needs to be refurbished. We have not been able to refurbish it because the workshop is situated at a low-lying place which floods any time it rains.”

“Any investment in the place means we are going to waste resource. Last year, we approached the ministry to that effect,” he explained.

Familiarisation visit

Mr Ligbi made the appeal when the Minister of Transport, Mr Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, his deputy, Mrs Joyce Bawa Mogtari, and the Chief Director, Mr Twumasi Ankra Seiby, paid a familiarisation visit to the company.

The visit was to introduce the minister to the agency, since it was his first visit to the company (since he took over as minister).

The MD’s concern was manifested when there was a downpour around 11:45 a.m. when Mr Kwetey was interacting with the workers of the MMTL.

The outcome of the rain resulted in pools of water in the company’s vicinity.

Other appeals the MD made to the ministry included the construction of bus terminals disciplining recalcitrant workers and addressing bureaucracies that delayed the clearing of vehicle parts from the port.

Commendation

For his part, Mr Kwetey commended management for doing well to support the transport sector.

“As you can see, there is no alternative than to relocate them to a proper workshop. The company has a lot of prospects. We must address the few bottlenecks to ensure that we will support the company to stand on its feet,” he stated.
