Labourer remanded in prison custody for stealing

A Kumasi Circuit Court has remanded a 25-year-old labourer in prison custody for stealing agricultural chemicals valued at GH6,240 from his employers. Suleman Yussif, who pleaded guilty and asked for time to refund the money, was convicted by the Court presided over Mr Justice Adjei Frimpong and would receive his sentence at a later date. His two accomplices known only as Daniel, a labourer, and Napare, a security-man, both of the Company, are on the run. Assistant Superintendent of Police, Albert Oddei-Quansah, told the court that Yussif worked with Afcot Ghana Limited, producers of agricultural chemicals at Brisco in Kumasi as a cleaner. He said Yussif, who has made the Companys warehouse his sleeping place, sought permission from his employers on June 21, to visit his uncle at Ashaiman, near Tema but failed to return when the time was due. ASP Oddei-Quansah said the Companys Accountant later detected that some cartons of the chemicals were missing and a thorough stock-taking revealed that a total of 104 cartons of the chemicals had been stolen. He said a formal report was therefore made to the Asokwa Police, whose investigations led to the arrest of Yussif. He said the convict admitted the offence in his caution statement and mentioned Daniel and Napare as accomplices. Mr Justice Frimpong asked Yussif to consult his relatives to help to make a refund after which he would receive his sentence.
