Parliament Commiserates With Late Pepera's Family

Members of Parliament have visited and commiserated with the family of Peter Wiafe Pepera, the Member of Parliament for Abetifi, who died last Saturday.

Mr Pepera, aged 62, was reported to have died at the 37 Military Hospital in Accra. He celebrated his last birthday on May 9, this year.

He was an industrialist consultant by profession, and the Managing Director of Paramount Distilleries.
The delegation was jointly led by the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Ebo Barton-Odro and the Second Deputy Speaker, Mr Joe Ghartey with the leadership of both sides of the House.

The House cut short deliberations earlier, on Tuesday, for the visit following a directive by the Speaker of Parliament, Edward Doe Adjaho, asking the leadership to constitute a delegation for the purpose.

Members of the House wore black attire with red arm and neck bands in expression of their shock and pain by the sudden death of their colleague, who was in his Second Term in Parliament on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The late MP was in the House with his colleagues, last Friday, sporting his trademark “Beats by Dr Dre” earphone, which always hanged around his neck.

He was, however, reported dead the next day and his colleagues received the news with sense of shock as they were expecting to join him to perform the final funeral rites of his mother, who was recently cremated in the UK.
The final funeral rites were scheduled to take place in July.

A Family Spokesperson, Ebenezer Tinkorang Acheampong, announced that the One-Week funeral celebration of Mr Pepera’s passing would be held next Saturday at the deceased’s Switchback Road residence.

The Minority Leader, Osei Kyei-Mensa-Bonsu, expressed the condolence of the Minority and the entire House to the family.
Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo, the Presidential candidate of the NPP and his deputy, Dr Mahamadu Bawumia, also visited the family to share in their grief.

Mr Barton-Odro and Mr Ghartey signed the book of condolence opened in memory of Mr Pepera.
The legislator was the Ranking Member on the Trade and Industry Committee, in Parliament.
Mr Pepera was also a member of the Committee of Privileges.

He was once a Deputy Minister in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Administration before joining the NPP, in 2001
