JHS Leavers Denied Access to Results

Results of many candidates of Junior High Schools who sat in for the Basic Education Certificate Examination Certificate Examination (BECE) in some selective private schools in the Bring Ahafo Regional hangs in a balance following the refusal of some Proprietors and Heads of Schools to release the results to them. The bone of contention is that some Proprietors of most private schools in the region are demanding the third terms fees of which the Parents had refused to obliged saying their wards did not participate in the third term classes which warrant them to pay such fees. The practice according to the Parents is having a negative effect on the development of education in the region. When contacted, a voice from the regional outfit of the Education Directorate confirmed the news adding that one of such Proprietors had been invited but admitted that it was a decision taken by the school Management Committee to demand third term fee and it is done every year. When The Torch however contacted One Mr. T.K. Addai, Proprietor, he responded in the affirmative adding that the payment of the third terms fee agreed upon by the School Management Committee would go along way to remunerate the teachers who dedicated themselves in organising extra classes free of charge to the Candidates during vacation and other free periods. It was also made possible since payment of taxes and other levies are normally budgeted for on yearly basis and not terms. However, the names of such schools are being withheld for security reasons while investigations continue. Meanwhile, the Municipal Director of Education expressed worry as to why such agreements were not communicated to the PTA resulting to complaints by some heart felt parents.
