AMA Takes Steps To Ensure Public Safety �At Makola Mall Site

The Chief Executive Officer of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), Dr Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije, has met with the contractors of the Makola shopping mall to discuss measures to address public safely at the site following the recent death of a nursing mother.

The nursing mother died when a heavy metal fell on her from the high rising building last Thursday.

Akweley, a single mother of two -an 8-months old baby and a six-year-old child, was seated by the fence of the construction site when the metal fell on her.

The Managing Director of the Lamda Consult, Mr. Nii Okai Nunoo expressed condolences to the bereaved family. He said the project had an insurance against third parties with Enterprise Insurance.

He noted that the company had taken the total cost of the funeral expenses which includes mortuary fee, and monies for grave yard.

He assured that the company would give the deceased a befitting funeral and foot the burial expenses.

The Mayor of Accra hinted that he would visit the site for an inspection to make sure that measures have been put in place in order to reopen the site.

He expressed his condolences to the bereaved family over the loss of Akweley.
