Krofrom: 'Police Tasered My Brothers Penis Before He Died' Sister

A sister of a young man, who died in Krofrom in the Ashanti region, allegedly as a result of police brutality, has said her brother’s penis was tasered by the law enforcers as part of the brutal assault that led to his death.

Janet Appiah, who spoke to Class News’ regional correspondent Hafiz Tijani in an exclusive interview, said: “My brother was accosted by a police officer as he returned from the public toilet. He fell down and broke his leg as he attempted fleeing after he had been handcuffed by the police. An officer beckoned him to get up, but he couldn’t as a result of his fractured leg. The police then tasered his penis and his torso to force him to get up. My brother kept crying to our grandmother: ‘Mama save me’, as the officers dragged him away,” Ms Appiah said.

Angered by the death of 22-year-old Kwadwo Tawiah, apparently as a result of the police brutalities, about 200 angry youth of the area took to the streets and burnt car tyres as well as vandalised some property to express their frustration against the police over the matter.

The victim was killed on the night of Thursday May 26 during a swoop in the area. He was suspected by the police to have been a member of a gang that terrorised residents in the area.

The police have opened investigations into Tawiah’s death.
