Invest In Tertiary Education Research - Lecturer

Dr. Emmanuel Adinyira, a lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, on Thursday appealed to students to develop their capacity in conducting research to provide solutions to socio-economic problems facing the nation. He said for Ghana to achieve the Millennium Development Goals and reach a middle income status, there was the need for an appropriate investment in tertiary education research and nurture students to benefit from information technology advancement. Dr. Adinyira said this when addressing a six-week training workshop on building students capacity in rural research and advocacy in Accra. It was organised by the Centre for Rural Research and Poverty Reduction, a rural research and advocacy group. He said research undertaken at the university could be relevant when the findings solve developmental problems and urged the students to spearhead developing their research capacity to realise this objective. Dr. Adinyira appealed to government to recognise the human resources in the university and motivate students, lecturers and researchers to come up with solutions that could help alleviate poverty. Dr. Prince Osei Adjei, Team Leader of the Centre, said it would collaborate with institutions and stakeholders to build and train local capacities to undertake policy-oriented research projects. He said their findings would be submitted to government and other stakeholders to form the basis for effective research-based poverty reduction strategies to improve the living standards of the vulnerable in society.
