NPP Will Attack NDC Polling Station Agents If IGP Blocks Social Media Wontumi

The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, has threatened that the elephant family will go the full length to attack all polling station agents of the ruling National Democratic (NDC) if the Inspector General of Police (IGP), John Kudalor, goes ahead to block social media during the November 7 polls.

According to the NPP regional chair, popularly known as Wontumi, the IGP’s intent of blocking social media on the day of the election is a well thought out strategy meant to restrict the opposition political parties from accessing information countrywide.

Interacting with Accra-based Okay FM, Monday, Wontumi said the NDC under the leadership of President Mahama has imported some mobile handset machines to be distributed to their polling station agents across the country.

The mobile handset gadget, he noted, has the tendency to restrict communications in a particular area, believing that the NDC has plotted to use that machine in all the polling stations across the country much to the disadvantage of opposition political parties, especially, the NPP.

Mr. John Kudalor last week told journalists that one of the options the Police Service is considering to ensure a peaceful election is to block access to social media on the day of the election.

But his statement has received mixed reaction from the public; with lovers of social media threatening to hit the streets if the Police goes ahead with their intention.

Wontumi commenting further said the earlier the IGP rescinds that decision the better because the NPP will resist any attempt of blocking social media.

“What the IGP is saying is not a figment of his own imagination. It is something he together with President Mahama and Omane Boamah have planned to do. They have brought into the country some small mobile handsets like a walking-talking machine that the Police are using. The started using this machine a day after I was arrested in the Ashanti Region”.

“They are distributing this walkie-talkie-like machine to all the polling station agents of the NDC so that when they block social media and other radio stations, they (NDC polling station agents) will still have access to communicate with themselves”, he alleged.

He added, “The IGP should understand that I, Wontumi, on the day of the election, if he blocks social media in Ashanti Region, any NDC polling station agent will be attacked. Any NDC agent who will be detailed at any of the polling stations to restrict assess to telephone calls and social media, I am insisting that, that person will be attacked”.

“What the IGP is saying is unconstitutional and so we will also do things that are unconstitutional. Take it from me, we will resist oppressors rule”.
