The Member of Parliament for Manhyia North, Collins Amankwa, has said he and his constituents are not convinced by the autopsy report absolving three police officers of any wrongdoing in the death of a 27-year-old man at Krofrom. The deceased, was allegedly beaten to death after the police officers on patrol mistook him for a criminal.
The autopsy report released by the police however indicated that, the deceased, died from a heart failure. Irate youth in the town who disagreed with the report, believed to have been conducted by a pathologists at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, demonstrated against the police.
Speaking on Eyewitness News, Mr. Amankwa relayed the displeasure of his constituents and revealed that they were going to officially state their position on the recent developments after the one week memorial of the deceased, Osei Tawiah.
“We are not happy people at all. Honestly the way this young man has lost his life, we find it difficult to comprehend,” the MP stated. He also reiterated the concerns of the people who have rejected the autopsy findings, saying the deceased was brutalized by police personnel.
“I share the sentiment of my people. This reports suggesting that he died as a result of heart failure are imaginations. The fact of the matter is that we are not satisfied.” According to Mr. Amankwa, “We are not convinced at all especially where it has been established that the young man was brutalized by some police officers on duty,”.
Despite the reports of rioting from the irate youth, the Manhyia North MP said that his people were law abiding citizens who “will continue to respect the laws of this country.” “It has been alleged that my people were demonstrating, smashing police vehicles but we are not violent people. I know my people except that this unfortunate death cannot be taken lightly,” Mr. Amankwa stated.
