I Support IGPs Social Media Ban Ayariga

Founder of All People’s Congress (APC), Hassan Ayariga says he will support any move by the Inspector General of Police to shut down social media services during the November 7 general elections if he believes it is necessary.

The move, according to John Kudalor, is to curtail abuse of social media platforms which could create tension.

His suggestion has been met with backlash by majority of Ghanaians, political parties and the Ghana Journalists Association.

In spite of the backlash and criticisms IGP John Kudalor, seems to be bent on carrying out his threat.

According to him, nothing at all or nobody can stop him from blocking social media sites on Election Day if that is what it would take to safeguard the peace and security of the country.

He appears to have found a supporter in Hassan Ayariga, who is of the view that the IGP is on top of issues and is more enlightened on security details than individuals and groups kicking against his intended move.

“IGP has done nothing wrong if he should go ahead and ban social media if that will give us the needed peace we want before, during and after the elections. I fully support him for that decision” he said.

The former flagbearer of the People’s National Convention (PNC) indicated that no person is more enlightened on security details than the IGP “and so it will be better if we pay attention to what he is saying”.
