Northern Chiefs Want Region Split into 2

Members of the Northern Regional House of Chiefs have appealed to the government to create one or two more regions out of the area to make administration effective and easy. The creation of one or more regions is long over due and therefore we unanimously agree that the region be split into two or three. The chiefs made the appeal at the first ordinary meeting of the House of Tamale. According to them, the vastness of the region was making it difficult for effective administration. They are optimistic that carving more regions from with the region would promote citizens participation in governance and development. It would also ensure political equity and rapid socio-economic development. The chiefs suggested that old traditional boundaries could help to determine the demarcation of the new region(s) to be created. The chiefs urged all Ghanaians to support their request for an additional region in the area, adding: We anticipate that there would be total support for this move by not only the people of the region but the whole country.
