A river deity is threatening to kill all able bodied men and women at Akyem Anamaase, a farming community in the Eastern region if the traditional leaders don’t do the necessary rituals to appease it.
The reason for the threat is the incessant use of the river as a joint for sexual intercourse by youth in the town.
The river known as ‘Apaam’ river, according to Adom FM’s Kwasi Azor revealed itself to a fetish priest in the town and warned of an eminent calamity
The situation has therefore forced the chiefs and elders of Akyem Anamaase to perform rituals to appease the god of the Apaam River since it is a taboo to defile the river in the town.
The Gyasehene of Akyem Anamaase Nana Gwamina Akenten II, who led the delegation to perform the rituals at the river, said “river Apaam revealed itself to one traditional ruler who later revealed everything to us and how the youth have defiled it by having sex and easing themselves indiscriminately in the river.
“We had to go appease the river with white cattle and two bottles of schnapps because that was the order from the river. We will all be doomed if we refuse to pay attention to it and so we have to be quick in order to save our dear lives” he stressed.
Nana Gwamina Akenten II therefore warned that chiefs in the area will employ all measures to enforce that traditional laws are put in place to protect their inheritance as well as prevent residents people from defiling the river.
